It features a 50.1MP full-frame EXMOR RS BSI CMOS sensor and BIONZ XR processing engine, allowing for 8K video recording, high resolution still shooting, high speed and sensitivity, as well as reliable connectivity for all professional content creators.

50.1MP EXMOR RS BSI CMOS Stacked Sensor

The Sony A1 employs a newly developed 50.1MP EXMOR RS full-frame sensor with a stacked back-illuminated design and integrated memory which delivers full-frame 8.6K oversampling for 8K video recording, 15-stop dynamic range, outstanding sharpness, expandable sensitivity up to ISO 102400, phase-detection AF, and 30 fps shooting. Besides, the new BIONZ XR engine offers up to 8x faster processing, incredibly reduced rolling shutter and more fluent interface and file management handling speeds.

Updated Electronic and Mechanical Shutter

When working with an electronic shutter, the a1 is capable of 30 fps continuous shooting at full resolution with full AF and AE capabilities. If you are using the mechanical shutter, you are still able to shoot up to 10 fps. Its large buffer memory allows the user to shoot up to 155 compressed raw frames, or 165 JPEGs, in one single burst at 30 fps. The updated electronic shutter is silent and vibration-free and supports 1/200s flash sync speeds as well as anti-flicker shooting. Also, the updated mechanical shutter, allows the user to sync at 1/400s in full-frame or 1/500s with an APS-C crop.

Outstanding Video Capability with 8K 30p and 4K 120p Video Recording in 10-Bit

The Sony A1 can capture UHD 8K 30p XAVC HS video with 8.6K oversampling and internal 4:2:0 10-Bit sampling. You are also able to shoot up to UHD 4K 120p using full pixel readout without binning. Internal 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling is available in all recording modes as well as 16-bit raw output via the full-size external HDMI A port. The camera uses a similar heat dissipation design to the one developed for the a7S III. This, in conjunction with lowering the overheat protection setting, allows for 30 minutes of 8K capture.

Quick Hybrid AF System

The camera features Real-time Eye AF for both humans and animals with 759 phase-detection points as well as 425 contrast-detection areas which cover 92% of the image area. This focusing system is available for use in all recording modes, to benefit both video and stills applications. With dedicated Real-time Eye AF Bird Mode, you are able to detect and track bird's eye regardless of the bird's position.

5-Axis SteadyShot Inside Image Stabilisation

The Sony A1 employs 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilisation system with enhanced 5.5-stop effectiveness. The stabilisation system is also compatible with third-party lenses, adapters or lenses with built-in optical stabilisation. Additionally, Active IS mode in video shooting, delivers more precise and smoother footage straight out of the camera.

Pixel Shift Multi Shooting

Pixel Shift Multi Shooting allows you to capture 199MP resolution images by shifting the sensor and making 16 consecutive exposures. It delivers greater colour accuracy and detail comparing to a single exposure. All images can then be merged during post-production by using the Sony Imaging software suite.

9.44 million-dot OLED viewfinder and Tilting Screen

The camera employs an outstanding QXGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF with 9.44m-dot resolution and 0.9x magnification. This viewfinder delivers or incredibly bright, clear, and detailed eye-level viewing. With 240 fps refresh rate, the camera delivers a blackout-free viewfinder experience with a fluent eye-level viewing. Besides, it features a 3.0" 1.44m-dot tilting screen with touchscreen capability for intuitive shooting control and menu navigation.

Extensive Weather-sealing

The Sony A1 features an enhanced weather-sealing which allows the user to operate in rough weather conditions. The Magnesium alloy chassis delivers a more rigid and durable camera while remaining lightweight. Besides, the lens mount has also been improved to better support heavy lenses, and the grip rigidity has been improved for more comfortable handholding.
