Its robust yet compact build and advanced optical stabilisation system make it ideal for handheld shooting. With a Hypersonic Autofocus Motor, a 9-blade rounded diaphragm, and a Super Multi-Layer Lens Coating, this lens delivers sharp results and excellent handling, making it perfect for sports and wildlife photographers.
Long Telescopic Zoom Range
Capturing subjects from a medium to long distance away is possible with the lens which is able to zoom from 100m at its widest to an impressive 400m at the telephoto end, also the lens can be combined with a range of tele-converters to increase the reach even further. The long zoom range makes it perfect for portraits as it easily compresses your perspective and provide excellent subject to background separation.
Intuitive Push/Pull Zooming
In addition to the traditional twist zoom mechanism the lens employs a unique and intuitive push and pull function that makes zooming quicker. With a customised lens hood that has a groove for better grip the choice of zooming styles provides enhanced control over your compositions.
Hyper Sonic Autofocus System
The Hyper Sonic Motor of the lens provides faster focus acquisition that allows quicker shooting and more accurate results. The operation of the lens is much quieter making it perfect for more discrete shooting. As well as an improved autofocus response the lens also offers full-time manual focus override for manual adjustments.
Optical Stabilisation
To compensate for bumps and shakes, the Sigma 100-400mm lens is equipped with an advanced Optical Stabilisation (OS) system. It features vastly improved gyroscopic and acceleration sensors and an exclusive algorithm which detects horizontal, vertical, and diagonal movements and compensates accordingly to deliver improved handheld shooting ability.
Superior Optical Performance
The lens has an optical assembly that comprises of 21 elements arranged in 15 groups. It employs 4 Super Low Dispersion (SLD) elements to minimise chromatic aberrations and colour fringing throughout the entire zoom range ensuring that your pictures are tack sharp with accurate colour reproduction.
9-Blade Rounded Aperture
The Sigma contemporary series lens features a 9-blade rounded aperture that creates beautiful bokeh in the out-of-focus areas of the shot. This makes stunning discs of light when shooting multiple light sources and can be used to create a dream-like photographic quality.
Super Multi-Layer Coating
A Super Multi-Layer Coating on the lenses optical elements is used the lens to reduces the flare and ghosting especially while shooting in strong lighting conditions or backlit subjects. The coating combined with an advanced optical construction enables the lens to generate crisp images with consistent contrast and clarity.
Water & Oil Repellent Coating
The front element of the lens is treated with a water-repellent coating that prevents water and oil adhering to the surface, enabling you to work without worrying about smudges or water drops spoiling your pictures. The rear bayonet mount is constructed from brass for improved durability and the rubber seals inside protect from the weather.
Nikon Mount Supports Electromagnetic Diaphragm
The Nikon mount version of the lens includes an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism, which enables it to take advantage of precision diaphragm control and better auto exposure performance with newer Nikon camera models.
