The Wait is Over

The Canon EOS R is the camera that photography enthusiasts and gear nerds have been speculating about for years. The first full frame mirrorless camera to be released by Canon, it leverages the company’s 80+ years of experience at the forefront of photographic innovation to deliver a modern marvel that will change the way you shoot at both a creative and technical level.

30.3 Megapixel Full Frame Sensor

With a 30.3-megapixel full frame sensor, a revolutionary 5655 points of auto focus and 4K30 video recording packed into a compact mirrorless body, the EOS R is the new standard for photography and video creators everywhere.

DiG!C8 Image Processor

The full frame sensor is combined with a DIGIC8 image processor to deliver the professional standard image quality that Canon is renown for. Colours are vivid, contrast is rich, white balance is accurate, and details are tack-sharp.

Dual Pixel RAW File Support

Dual Pixel RAW file support, further improves image detail and sharpness. The EOS R utilises its Dual Pixel sensor configuration to generate a single RAW file that contains both image data and parallax information. Combined with the Dual Pixel RAW Optimizer software, professionals can really explore the limits of what is possible during post-production by making micro adjustments using the depth information contained within the file to deliver maximum sharpness.

4K 4:2:2 10-Bit via HDMI Out

For video shooters, the EOS R captures UHD 4K files at 30 fps, Full HD 1080p at 60 fps and HD 720p at 120 fps for dramatic slow motion. When recording in-camera, 4K video has 4:2:2 sampling and 8-bit colour depth. More serious users can make use of a 4:2:2 10-bit clean output in ITU-R CT.2020 to capture footage via an external recorder.

Versatile ISO Range

A native ISO100 - ISO40000 can be extended to ISO50, 51200 and 102400 to ensure your storytelling capabilities are not compromised. Even in difficult lighting conditions, the Canon R produces exceptional low-noise results, while adding next-level exposure versatility and creative control for shooters working in extremely bright or dark locations.

Dual Pixel AF System

Autofocus is fast, smooth and precise with thanks to Canon’s proven Dual Pixel AF system.  Capable of locking onto your subject in 0.05 seconds, its 143 AF points deliver exceptional focusing performance and intelligent tracking accuracy with enhanced modes such as Eye Detect Autofocus.

5655 Autofocus Points

The EOS R breaks all the rules with its 5655-point manual auto focus points. When manually selecting a focus point, the camera allows critical sharpness across 100% of the height and 88% of the width of the frame. A game-changer for every photographer, regardless of whether you are a wedding or portrait shooter, landscape enthusiast, macro shooter, street photographer, sports or wildlife professional or filmmaker, you will appreciate the unprecedented level of compositional accuracy and versatility this ground-breaking system delivers.

Top Mounted LCD Info Panel

A top mounted Dot-Matrix LCD Panel enables you to quickly check your camera status and settings at a glance. Replacing the traditional Mode Dial, the new Dot-Matrix display is combined with a mode button and quick control dial which allows you to change shooting modes and camera settings with one hand.

Innovative Multi-Function Bar

A Multi-Function Bar ergonomically located near the thumb rest is a fast and intuitive way to quickly customise various functions. It recognises 3 touch actions - swipe, left tap, right tap and delivers intuitive control over the AF mode, ISO, white balance, movie modes and manual focus precision. With 40+ customisable operations available, actions can also be defined for shooting and playback modes independently, further enhancing it’s usability in everyday shooting scenarios.

Touch & Drag AF Functionality

The mirrorless system enables Touch and Drag AF via the rear LCD touch screen. While looking through the viewfinder, the rear screen can be set to act as an AF selector, activated by simply swiping your thumb to the area of the frame you wish to be in focus. You can also swipe from one point to another to enable cinematic style pull-focus effects, eliminating the need for a focus puller or manually racking focus by hand.

Vari-Angle Flip-Out Screen

The high-resolution flip-out screen is a generous 3.15-inches, delivering a comfortable shooting and menu navigation experience. The touch screen capability ensures customising functions and changing settings within the menus is fast and intuitive. The vari-angle screen is great for high and low angle shooting, and a must-have convenience for any vlogger.

3.69 Million-Dot EVF

The EVF was designed to with the goal of edge-to-edge clarity in mind. It consists of a 0.5-inch, 3.69 million-dot organic EL panel with no perceivable lag, and 0.71x magnification for an intuitive, uncompromising viewing experience.

External Microphone Compatible

Filmmakers will be glad to hear the EOS R features a built-in microphone plus a microphone input and headphone output to enable advanced audio capture and monitoring.

Wi-Fi & Bluetooth Connectivity

Built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity enable you to quickly share your creative vision with the world. In combination with the Canon Camera Connect app, you can quickly transfer files to your smartphone or tablet. The app also enables remote shooting with live view, equipping you with the flexibility to mount the camera in a remote location and shoot via the app.

RF Mount with EF > RF Lens Adapters Available

The new RF mount on the Canon EOS R already has 4 impressive lenses available at the time of launch. Existing canon users will be excited that 3 EF/EF-S to EOS R mount adapters will be available separately, opening up the mirrorless format to the entire catalogue of past, present and future EF and EF-S lenses.
