The Samyang AF 50mm lens boasts auto focus and delivers the same strengths and benefits that the manual focus version does. It is the first Samyang lens to feature auto focus and it works well with phase and contrast detection sensors allowing for quick, smooth focusing when in operation. The auto focusing mechanism provides accurate results even when used less than optimal lighting conditions.
Suits Sony FE Mount and Full Frame Sensors
Designed specifically to fit on the Sony FE Mount, this lens achieves a larger field of view when used with mirrorless cameras equipped with full frame sensors while still supporting APS-C format cameras. This ultimately gives you the ability to capture more detail in a shot with a variety of cameras, perfect if you are photographing portraits or nightscapes.
Bright F/1.4 Aperture
With the Samyang lens you get a stunning maximum aperture of f/1.4 perfectly designed to isolate your subject by blurring the background for those ultra-shallow depth of field shots. This impressive maximum aperture is also useful if you are taking photographs of in low light conditions where a flash won’t reach like at sporting events indoors or live music shots. The aperture range stretches all the way to f/16 so you have a lot of options to stop down and capture more detail for landscapes or subjects that require a deep depth of field.
9 Elements in 8 Groups
The 50mm lens from Samyang uses 9 glass elements in 8 groups, and this includes three high quality aspherical lenses. The aspherical lenses ensure that you get superior resolution in the center of your image that also extends to the corners. Chromatic aberrations are reduced to a minimum so you’ll save time correcting later on in post-production.
Ultra Multi Coating (UMC)
Samyang employ a multi layered anti-reflective coating on the lens and this ensures that the maximum amount of light enters the lens while also keeping lens flare and ghosting under control leading to sharper, brighter images and more accurate colour reproduction every time.
The Samyang 50mm lens has a circular aperture with nine rounded blades. This means that those all-important defocused background shots have smooth rounded bokeh which is much more visually appealing than those created by straight blades.
Minimum Focus Distance of 0.45m
The Samyang AF 50mm offers a minimum focusing distance of 45cm; this is incredibly useful if you need to photograph subjects that are close to you. The more of the frame you can fill with your subject generally the better and the near focusing distance enables you to get right up in the action without worrying about your focus being off.
Manual Focusing Ring
There is a ribbed manual focusing ring on the lens that is useful if you want to have more precision control over your shots. Because the ring is wide it is easy to grip for when you want to make manual adjustments to the focus.
Metal Housing and Lens Hood
The metal housing used in the design inspires confidence when using the lens and you don’t have to worry about it being damaged easily. There is a bayonet shaped lens hood provided with the Samyang Auto Focus 50 mm f 1.4 lens, it protects the lens from unwanted lens flare and can increase contrast when shooting into the sun. The lens hood also protects the front lens elements against drops and is also able to be detached when not needed to make transport easier.
