Sony unveils a new Sony ZV-E10 II and kit lens

Sony ZV-E10 II Mirrorless Camera: As an update to the hugely popular ZV-E10, the ZV-E10 II incorporates a huge quantity of feedback from the creator community, providing a camera that is more powerful, more intuitive, and more creatively satisfying than its predecessor. Starting at the sensor, the ZV-E10 II incorporates a 26MP sensor, of which 19.9MP is used for video recording. Depending on the record mode selected, this provides either 5.6K or full 6K oversampling, improving detail and rendering across the frame.

Nikon unveils the Z6 III and battery power pack

Nikon has unveiled the Z6 III, the third generation of its full-frame mirrorless camera series, featuring a faster 24MP "Partially Stacked" CMOS sensor that enhances autofocus and video performance. This versatile hybrid camera offers 14fps with a mechanical shutter and 20fps with an electronic shutter, supporting up to 1000 Raw files. It can shoot up to 60fps in full-resolution JPEG and 120fps with an APS-C crop.

The Nikon Z6 III includes in-body image stabilisation rated at up to 8.0 stops, a 5.76M dot EVF with high brightness and wide colour gamut, and a fully articulated 3.2" 2.1M dot rear screen. Video capabilities include 6K/60p N-Raw, 6K/30p ProRes Raw, and 5.4K/60p H.265 recording, alongside features like pre-burst capture and pixel-shift high-resolution mode. In addition to the body announcement, there's a compatible MB-N14 Battery Power Pack that holds two batteries, extending shooting times while offering a vertical grip orientation.


Ricoh releases the Pentax 17 - a new 35mm half-frame film camera

This week has seen something not many were expecting with the release of a newly designed Pentax half-frame 35mm film camera. The design features a fixed 25mm f/3.5 lens with manual focus (37mm equivalent). Capturing 17 x 25mm frames, it offers a vertical format similar to smartphone images. The lens, inspired by the 1994 Pentax Espio Mini, features six preset focus distances from 0.25m to infinity and uses a leaf shutter with aperture settings from f/3.5 to f/16 and shutter speeds from 1/350 sec to 4 seconds, including a Bulb mode. Canon has announced EOS VR System lens: RF-S 3.9mm f/3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE

Earlier this week Canon Australia announced the new RF-S 3.9mm F3.5 STM DUAL FISHEYE, an APS-C virtual reality (VR) lens joining the EOS R System, in addition to the existing RF 5.2mm F2.8L DUAL FISHEYE. This new Canon EOS R7 compatible lens makes it even easier for anyone, including newcomers to the craft, to create high-quality 3D VR footage.

Dual fisheye lenses incorporate two separate lenses which are positioned side by side to simulate human binocular vision. Each lens captures an image from a slightly different perspective, creating two separate images that correspond to the views from the left and right eyes. This stereoscopic effect enables depth perception in VR, making the experience more immersive.

Panasonic Introduces the Lumix GH7

Panasonic has announced the new Lumix GH7. With a cutting-edge 25.2 MP BSI CMOS sensor, the GH7 offers outstanding image quality, featuring high-speed readout and exceptional dynamic range. It incorporates on-sensor Phase Detection AF, ensuring swift and precise autofocus.

The GH7 introduces ProRes RAW HQ internal recording, allowing filmmakers to capture 5.7K video at 25/30p with the flexibility of adjusting white balance and gain in post-production. For superior audio, the optional DMW-XLR2 enables 32-bit float recording, capturing a wider dynamic range.

The camera supports unlimited 4:2:2 10-bit C4K/4K 60p/50p video recording, maintaining performance even in high temperatures. Additionally, the GH7 offers seamless integration with Adobe's Frame.io for native camera-to-cloud workflows, versatile live streaming options, and the ability to apply and record LUTs in real-time, streamlining the post-production process.

Canon Announces a Cine Body, Cine Lens, a Mirrorless Lens and a New Speedlite

June 6th, 2024

Canon announced several new products this week, including the EOS C400 Full Frame Cinema Camera, Canon CN7x17 KAS T/R1 Cine-Servo 17-120mm T2.95-3.9 (available in two mounts), Canon RF 35mm f/1.4L VCM Lens, and Canon EL-10 Speedlite.

The standout from the bunch of products has to be the new cine body which features a 6K full-frame CMOS sensor and DIGIC DV7 processor for stunning visuals with 16-stop dynamic range. RF lenses are native to the body, but you can also opt for a PL adapter for expansion. The new Cine-servo 17-120mm lens will be a welcome asset for many cinematographers and is available in RF or PL mount.

Adding to the news is the release of Canon's first RF lens to use a VCM (Voice Coil Motor) in combination with a Nano USM to achieve electronic floating focus control. This technology makes this lens deliver fast, reliable and quiet autofocus, making it ideal for video applications.


New LUMIX S9: A Game-Changer for Creators

Panasonic proudly unveils the LUMIX S9, the most compact and lightweight full-frame mirrorless camera in its S Series. Designed for creators who are always on the move, the LUMIX S9 is available in Jet Black, Crimson Red, Dark Olive, Night Blue, and Dark Silver. It features a 24.2MP sensor, phase detection autofocus, and active image stabilisation for superior imaging performance.

The camera introduces MP4 Lite, optimising video for mobile devices and allowing creators to easily share content via the new LUMIX Lab app. This app, a standout feature, speeds up transferring and editing, letting users post to social media within 30 seconds.

Sigma announces 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II for Sony E and Leica L mounts

Sigma has unveiled the second-generation 24-70mm F2.8 DG DN II lens, a mirrorless-only fast standard zoom lens for Sony E and Leica L mounts. This new lens is slightly smaller and 10% lighter than its predecessor, with an improved optical formula that includes five aspheric elements. It features a “High-Response” linear motor for autofocus, promising better sharpness and contrast performance. The minimum focus distance has been reduced to 17cm, and the maximum reproduction ratio has increased to 0.37x. The lens also includes enhanced handling features such as a second AFL button and new switches for the aperture ring.

Panasonic Warranty Announcement

April 1st, 2024

Effective April 1, 2024, all Panasonic imaging products will move from a one-year standard warranty to a two-year standard warranty. In addition to the standard two-year warranty, Panasonic is introducing a new Bonus Extended Warranty program for every eligible purchase made after April 1, 2024. This bonus warranty program will apply to all LUMIX S Series and G Series cameras and lenses, as well as Panasonic Professional Camcorders. New Nikon Z fc Firmware Version 1.60 Announced

The Nikon Z series platform is designed to evolve, to add features and functionality as technology advances. Through firmware updates and, in some cases, service upgrades, Z series cameras are always at the forefront of imaging technology.

Nikon Australia has recently announced a firmware update for the Nikon Z fc camera. Firmware 1.60 adds more background colour options in the set-up menu and information display. Plus fixes an issue that Release Mode could not be properly adjusted using the Fn button in AUTO mode when Release mode was assigned to the Fn button.
