The Sigma fp is a cutting-edge mirrorless camera that can capture 14-Bit RAW still images and 4K RAW video with 12-bit colour in the CinemaDNG format to an external recorder. Sigma have jam packed this little guy with features and functionality that are all built-it around the L-mount. With the fp Sigma are pioneering a modular system that allows users to customise the camera with additional accessories depending on their requirements.

Back-Illuminated 24.6-Megapixel Full Frame Sensor

Housed inside the deceptively tiny fp is a large 24.6-megapixel full frame sensor with a back-illuminated construction designed to capture more light. Unlike previous Sigma cameras the fp uses a Bayer sensor design which produces images that are significantly more compatible with editing software and the sensor does not have a low-pass filter to ensure that image sharpness is optimised.

Compact Cinema & Stills Camera

Weighing in at only 370g, the Sigma fp is the world’s smallest and lightest interchangeable lens camera with a full frame image sensor. It is both portable enough for casual everyday snapshots and powerful enough to be built into a professional cinema or studio setup. Even though the camera is super compact it still has a 3.5-inch LCD display with touch functionality for super intuitive control.

Built-in Heat Sink & Robust Construction

With a rugged die-cast aluminium build, the Sigma fp also boasts 42 points of weather sealing that ensures the camera is protected against dust and splash damage when combined with a weather sealed L-mount lens. The camera also has a large heat sink designed to effectively dissipate heat from inside the camera, which is ideal for shooting in hot conditions or for long periods of time.

Designed for L-Mount Lenses

The Sigma fp is designed for lenses created as part of the L-mount alliance that are constructed by Leica, Panasonic as well as Sigma. L-mount lenses are premium quality glass designed to take advantage of the short flange distance of the system. The camera also supports Sigma SA mount lenses with the use of the Sigma MC-21 mount converter.

Extended ISO from 6-102400 & Dedicated Controls

Although the native ISO range of the SIGMA fp is 100-51200, the ISO can be extended as high as 102400 and dropped as low as 6 for more extensive exposure control. The camera also features dedicated buttons for quick access to the tone and colour menus as well as a customisable quick set menu.

14-Bit RAW Photography

Designed to be both a high-quality stills and cinema camera, the fp has several features that ensure it can deliver results, like the ability to capture images with an impressive lossless 14-bit RAW colour depth and an electronic shutter that can shoot up to 1/8000th of second. In additional to the standard AF-S, AF-C and MF focus modes it also has face and eye detection for sharp portraits, as well as a low-light AF mode for focusing in -5EV conditions.

HDR and Cinemagraph Modes

The camera also boasts an innovative HDR shooting mode that uses the cameras electronic shutter to capture 3 images at different exposure levels that are blended in camera for a more balanced result. It also has a ‘Cinemagraph’ feature which you may have guessed from the name, which is a portmanteau of cinema and photograph, is a still image with animated features.

Record 12-Bit 4K RAW & ALL-Intra Compression

Using the Cinema DNG format you can capture 4K RAW video at 24fps with a 12-bit colour depth with an external recorder or 4K RAW video internally using the UHS-II card slot in 25 and 30fps with a 10-bit and 8-bit colour depth. But the video capabilities of the camera don’t stop there, it also records h.264 video with all-intra compression to save space and make editing easier and can capture full HD video at up to 120fps, perfect for slow-motion capture.

Professional Cine Functionality

The fp has some high-end video functions you might not expect from a camera this size, it seems that Sigma have taken the time to add the little things that can make a big difference in video production. Features like waveform display, peaking and zebra guides but also the option to use shutter angles rather than shutter speeds, timecode recording, and a USB-C port for external SSD recording as well as live streaming.

Additional Accessories

The functionality and handling of the camera can be modified and customised by adding accessories like the hot shoe unit that allows you to mount an external flash, the LCD viewfinder that cuts out light and adds a 2.5x magnification to the rear screen. There is also a selection of two different hand grips that improve the handling of the camera, useful when shooting with larger lenses as well as a base grip for hand-grip style shooting.
