Fujifilm X100V Mirrorless Camera

If you're looking for a compact digital mirrorless camera that has it all, then look no further than the Fujifilm X 100 series. The state of the art Fujifilm X100V is the latest entry in a long-running series of premium compact camera bodies from Fujifilm. The Fujifilm X100V (Black or Silver) is the fifth iteration of the Fujifilm X100 series. It offers significant improvements over past generations thanks to flagship features and enhancements. The Fujifilm X100V boasts new standout features such as the APS-C X-Trans CMOS 4 image sensor and the Quad-Core X-Processor 4 engine. It packs the same powerful combination of 26.1MP X-Trans CMOS 4 sensor and X Processor 4 as the flagship Fujifilm X-T4 digital mirrorless camera.

The Fujifilm X100 series and Fujifilm X100V are fan favourites thanks to their retro-inspired design, unique attributes and dedication to the joy of photography. With a rangefinder aesthetic, the X100V retains the slimline and compact design, advanced hybrid viewfinder and minimal control layout of the previous generations. However, it steps boldly into the present day thanks to the newly designed 23mm F2 lens, rear tilting LCD touchscreen, weather-resistant design, built-in flash, and collection of impressive Fujifilm film simulations. It's everything you could possibly want in a pro-level compact camera. It's the ultimate, fan-approved addition and edition to the X100 series.

Classic Fujifilm Design and Build

Since day one, the Fujifilm X100 series of compact mirrorless cameras has retained the same stylish, minimalistic, and retro-inspired design aesthetic. Two colour variations are available for the X100V - Black for a stealth street style and the classic two-tone with black and silver. The classic camera shape shines through in the Fujifilm X100V with a minimal rear button layout regardless of the colour choice. The top plate still sports the essential shutter speed dial, ISO dial and the handy exposure compensation dial to fine-tune camera settings and appreciate the purest of photography experiences. The shutter speed dial and ISO dial are combined in a unique lift and twist mechanism for precision input.

Another unique addition to the Fujifilm X100V (black or silver) is the partial weather sealing to ensure continued shooting in any climate or conditions. For complete dust and moisture sealing, the hot shoe cover should be in place along with the optional AR-X100 Adapter Ring to mount a Fujifilm PRF-49 Protection Filter. The additional measures are essential to make the X100V weather-resistant for peace of mind

4th Generation Power and Performance

Each generation of the X100 series cameras has seen a noticeable jump in both processing power and sensor performance. The Fujifilm X100V is no exception as it features the latest APS-C X-Trans sensor and X processor Fujifilm has to offer. In fact, the 26.1MP X-Trans APS-C sensor is the same CMOS 4 sensor found in the flagship Fujifilm X-T4. The back-illuminated sensor combines with a unique colour filter array to optimise image quality and dynamic range. It achieves this without the need for an optical low-pass filter.

The X Processor 4 is a powerhouse thanks to its quad-core configuration and processing performance. In addition, the Fujifilm X100V features the same X-Processor 4 as found in that same pro-level mirrorless camera. The high-performing APS-C sensor and X Processor 4 guarantee the highest image quality and full resolution video capture regardless of its heritage.

Faster Autofocus And Sharper Optics

The Fujifilm X100 series of cameras have all sported the same fixed 23mm F/2 prime lens. In fact, the exact same optical build, lens configuration and assembly have featured in every X100 camera. However, the Fujifilm X100V (black or silver) breaks with tradition to introduce a new and improved Fujinon 23mm F/2 lens to bolster image sharpness further. The 23 F/2 lens has a 35mm full-frame equivalent focal length - much like the analog point and click cameras of the past. The new Fujifilm X100V 23mm F/2 lens delivers exceptional sharpness wide open at f/2 without any hint of distortion or aberrations. The new 23mm lens filter thread mount will also support the existing WCL-X100 and TCL-X100 lens converters. While on the topic of lenses, the Fujifilm X100V features a new and improved internal ND filter system to deliver up to 4-stops of light reduction while shooting wide open at F/2.

One of the most significant benefits of the X100V featuring the same sensor and processor as the X-T4 is the lightning-fast and intelligent hybrid phase-detection autofocus system. In the latest entry to the X100 series, the X100V introduces Eye-Detect AF to lock onto and track moving subjects in as little as 0.08 seconds. The AF performance, including face and eye detection, relies on algorithms to achieve precision focus in any light conditions - even as low as -5EV. The Fujifilm X100V face and eye detection also allow the compact camera to be utilised as a portrait photographer's go-to choice for stunning images

The Most Advanced Hybrid Viewfinder

One of the standout features of the Fujifilm X100 series is the use of a hybrid viewfinder that replicates the shooting dynamics of an analog rangefinder camera. The X100V (Black or Silver) features the most advanced hybrid viewfinder that pairs and blends an Optical viewfinder (OVF) with an Electronic Viewfinder (EVF). The Optical Viewfinder provides a clear 0.52x magnification with parallax correcting frame lines. It works as a see-through optical window that does not use TTL for live view. On the other hand, the EVF is bright and fast, with a 3.6 million dot OLED Electronic Viewfinder. Of course, it wouldn't be an advanced hybrid viewfinder if you could not enjoy the best of both worlds. The Electronic Rangefinder function combines the optical view with a small EVF in the bottom right corner of the OVF. The 3.69M dot OLED EVF refresh rate has to be seen to be believed.

Touch To Control Everything

While the X100 series of Fujifilm compact cameras has always featured a rear LCD monitor, they've never had one like this! The X100V boasts an improved 3-inch, 3:2 aspect ratio LCD monitor that pumps out 1.6 million dots of resolution. And for a series first, the rear LCD screen utilises a dual-hinge design to flip down 45-degrees and up to 90-degrees for flexible shooting styles. The rear LCD monitor features complete touch functionality to deliver fast and intuitive menu navigation for a truly modern touch. The Fujifilm X100V also integrates an AF touchpad allowing photographers and videographers to select the area of the screen they want in focus without taking their eye from the advanced hybrid viewfinder.

Pocketable 4K Video Capture

The new X100V by Fujifilm is more than just a compact stills camera. The latest entry in the X100 series pushes creative content into the next level with improved 4K video at 30p and Full HD 120p for super slow-motion effects. Videographer savvy content creators will love the professional-grade F-Log colour profile and the built-in micro HDMI interface to record glorious 10-bit 4:2:2 footage to an external recorder.

As with all Fujifilm X Series and GF Series cameras, the X100V features an amazing range of Fujifilm Film Simulations. In fact, there are 17 of them built-in to the camera to add analog film looks to your best images. When it comes to high-resolution video capture, the complete range of Fujifilm film simulations can also be added in place of colour-grading to add unique and consistent outcomes to your content.

Final Thoughts On The Fujifilm X100V

Regardless of being a long time fan of the Fujifilm X100 series, or this being the first you have heard of them, the X100V leaves nothing to be desired. From its stylish design, compact form, built-in flash, and fixed 23mm F/2 lens to its impressive features and powerful performance - the Fujifilm X100V is a remarkable digital mirrorless camera.
