The Sekonic Speedmaster L-858D Light Meter provides detailed and accurate light readings in extreme lighting situations, allowing you to perfect your lighting set up for both photography and video. Support for High Speed Sync flash systems means you can determine the best settings to capture fast action without trails or blurs, while the low-light metering ability allows you to get accurate readings in conditions as dark as -5EV to match modern high-ISO cameras. Packed with other innovative features including a built-in spot meter, colour touch screen, and wireless triggering, it’s the perfect tool to streamline professional workflows.

Flash Duration Measurement

Freezing motion that is moving faster than the maximum shutter speed of your camera can be achieved by combining short flash durations with the fastest sync speed of your camera. The Speedmaster is the first meter that can measure the duration of your flash which varies depending on the make, model and individual power settings. This combined with the ability to measure from between t=0.9 to t=0.1 of the flash intensity creates incredibly accurate readings.

Compatible with High Speed Sync and HyperSync

The ability to read the stroboscopic pulses used during High Speed Sync (HSS) as well as the precise timing of HyperSync flash means you can predict the light of your scene when shooting with shutter speeds that are faster than your camera’s maximum sync speed. This gives you ultimate control over the brightness of your subject and the ambient light in the scene.

Outstanding Light Sensitivity

Well matched with the low-light capabilities of today’s cameras, the light meter boasts remarkable sensitivity for extremely accurate low light measurements. Coupled with an extended ISO and shutter speed range, the L858D provides you with precise light measurements with illuminance as low as 0.1 lux. This sensitivity allows you to determine the best settings for a candlelit scene or measure the light for a long-exposure shot.

Flash Analysis Function

Able to measure both ambient and flash lighting simultaneously, the Sekonic Light Meter makes it easy to work with mixed lighting by indicating the percentage of flash in the total exposure and what the camera settings would be at different ambient and flash light levels.

Exposure Profiling

Using an Sekonic Exposure Profile Target and a computer you can run a series of comprehensive tests to determine the light sensitivity characteristics and dynamic range of your camera sensor. This allows you to create an incredibly accurate exposure profile that can then be loaded onto the 858D for fine-tuned light meter and camera calibration.

Cinema Modes

Boasting a choice of cinema modes the HD Cine mode is designed specifically for DSLR style cameras and allows you to set the shutter speed, ISO and frame rate of your shot up to an ultra-fast 1000fps. The CINE mode is aimed at digital cinema and film cameras and provides the flexibility to select shutter angle instead of shutter speed.

Built-in Spot Meter

An integrated 1° spot meter provides fast accurate reflected light readings using a large, bright viewfinder that display full information and even features dioptre correct for accuracy. With a wide reading range of EV1-EV24.4, the spot meter allows you to take accurate readings of specific elements of your scene.

Colour Touch Screen

With a bright 2.7-inch colour LCD screen your meter readings are easily visible in a variety of lighting conditions, while the touchscreen function allows you to quickly change light meter modes easily.

Lumisphere Receptor Head

To measure incident light the L-858D has a collapsible Lumisphere receptor head that measures individuals light sources when retracted & a wide range of lighting when extended. The Lumisphere rotates up to 270° so you can ‘walk the set' to ensure consistent illumination even for large setups.

USB Port and All-Weather Design

A dust and splash proof construction means you can be confident when using the L 858D in demanding outdoor conditions. While a micro USB port allows for firmware upgrades and allows connectivity with Sekonic Data Transfer Software for custom settings and exposure profiling.

Wireless Triggering

The Sekonic L858D Speed Master Light Meter supports wireless flash triggering and remote control of flash power through radio transmitters (available separately). Interchangeable radio modules let you conveniently use the same module for various flash systems.
