The Canon GP-E1 GPS Receiver is a purpose-built accessory designed exclusively for the EOS-1D X, giving professional photographers precise location data embedded directly into their images and videos. When active, the GP-E1 automatically records latitude, longitude, altitude, cardinal direction and Universal Coordinated Time (UTC) as EXIF data - whether the camera is held vertically or horizontally - so every frame is fully geotagged without any extra steps. Built to match the rugged, weather-resistant construction of the EOS-1D X itself, the GP-E1 connects via the camera's extension system terminal rather than occupying the hot shoe, meaning your flash or other accessories remain fully accessible at all times. The unit draws power directly from the camera body, so there are no separate batteries to manage in the field. A built-in electronic compass accurately captures the direction the photographer is facing even when the camera is rotated, while the GPS time-sync function can set and synchronise the internal clocks of multiple cameras simultaneously - an invaluable feature for event and photojournalism workflows. Canon's Map Utility software is included to let you plot and review shooting locations on a map back at the desktop.
