The camera is precision cut and formed from expanded PVC, with a two-piece interlocking construction. The photographic medium is loaded into the lower section in darkroom conditions, then secured by sliding on the top section, which locks in place with magnets. The top section also holds the stainless steel, chemically etched 0.3mm pinhole. Designed for 4x5 inch film or paper, the camera has an 87mm focal length for wide-angle images. Pinhole exposures are controlled by a magnetic locking shutter, which can be left open or closed. The front section can be fitted in either orientation, making the camera suitable for right- or left-handed use. The design also includes a tripod mounting socket, and the supplied sticker can be used to create a sighting line for aiming the camera.

The Obscura is also supplied with 10 sheets each of 4x5 inch ILFORD DELTA 100 Professional film, ILFORD MULTIGRADE IV RC paper, and HARMAN DIRECT POSITIVE paper to get you started. The kit also includes a simple Exposure Calculator for use without a light meter, a set of stickers to decorate the camera, the user instruction booklet, and a 3-tray light-tight sheet film box for storing exposed materials. To load and unload the camera on location, all you need is a changing bag.
