1-Inch Exmor R CMOS Sensor

Boasting a massive 1-inch CMOS sensor, the PXW-X70 produces high resolution footage with a wide dynamic range. The Exmor R sensor is a back-illuminated unit with enhanced light sensitivity andreduced noise even at high gain settings. The size of the sensor helps produce beautiful out of focus background bokeh shots to enhanced the look of your production.

Carl Zeiss Vario Sonnar T* Lens with 12x Optical Zoom

The camcorder has a Carl Zeiss lens with a 12x optical zoom that captures sharp footage while providing the flexibility to capture close-ups as well as wider establishing shots without the need to change lenses. The T* coating on the lens reduces reflections and ensure the best optical clarity and rich colour reproduction. The lens also features a control ring that can be switched between focus or zoom.

Up to 48x Clear Image Zoom with Digital Extender

Aided by Sony’s advanced Clear Image Zoom technology the optical zoom is increased to 24x allowing you to capture extreme close-ups easily while preserving image quality. The Digital Extender function also allows the focal length to be doubled so you can shoot with an impressive 48x zoom to capture far away detail.

Variety of Full HD Recording Options

Making it perfect for a range of applications the X70 offers a choice of different HD recording codecs, from the more established DV to Sony’s cutting edge XAVC-L (Long GOP) as well as the popular AVCHD format which enable 1080p Full HD recording. When shooting in XAVC-L the camcorder can capture footage at an impressive 4:2:2, with 10-bit image sampling at 50Mbps, 35Mbps or 25Mbps depending on your needs.

Slow and Slow Motion Footage

When using the XAVC and AVCHD codecs you can shoot at up to 60fps which when combined with a 24p recording format can produce 2.5x slower footage. It is also possible to set the frame rate to 1fps to shoot time-lapse style fast motion.

Proxy XAVC Recording

By recording full resolution XAVC file at the same time as a low-bit rate file with an identical timecode but a greatly reduced file size, proxy recording makes your workflow more efficient. Smaller proxy files can be easily sent to an editor while the high res files transfer, once the edit is completed the higher quality file is swapped with the proxy file so the final cut is exported in full resolution.

Wi-Fi, NFC and Wireless Functionality

Enabling you to control your camera functions from a distance the Sony camcorder has integrated Wi-Fi and NFC support. Video files can be transferred from camcorder to smartphone in a MP4 format and streaming via the Wi-Fi connection is also possible at a choice of resolutions depending on the network environment.

Dual SD Card Slots

To extend your shooting time and enhance your workflow the Sony PXW-X70 has dual SD card slots that take SDHC, SHXC cards and support Pro Duo Memory Sticks. The Relay recording mode uses the second slot as an automatic overflow for when the first slot is full and the SIMUL mode records onto both cards simultaneously for an instant backup.

Switchable ND filters

Controlling your exposure while maintaining a particular depth of field has never been easier with an in-built ND(Neutral Density) filter control mechanism at the back of the camera. You can select from 4 ND settings; Clear, 1/4ND, 1/16ND and 1/64ND giving you complete control over the look of your shot even in sunny conditions.

Customisable Body Design

You can take advantage of the compact form factor of the X70 or choose to expand its functionality by attaching the XLR handle which provides two XLR audio inputs for professional sound recording. The handle also features its own record button and zoom controls so you can shoot comfortably from low angles.

3.5-Inch Touch Monitor and OLED Viewfinder

The PXW X70 has a 3.5-inch LCD screen that can viewed from virtually any direction and is a touch panel making control intuitive and easy. The video camera also has a high-resolution 1.44K dot OLED viewfinder that allows you to perfect your composition and critical focus when filming outside.

Professional Interface

With a range of industry standard ports, the camera can output video signal with a 3G-SDI port as well as a full size HDMI. It also has a composite out towards the front of the camera ensuring support even for older equipment.

Expandable Multi Hot Shoe

Boasting extensive expandability, the has a Multi-Interface Hot Shoe that is able to power and act as an audio input with Sony’s range of wireless audio systems. This save on batteries and cabling making your shooting rig even more compact.
