The Sony PXW-FS7 Mark II XDCAM Camcorder has a EXMOR CMOS Super 35mm sensor that captures a shallow depth-of-field with an incredible 14-stops of latitude and wide colour gamut. This versatility combined with its single operator design make it the perfect tool for documentaries, reality TV, short films, and professional cinematography. The camera records 4K video up to 60 fps and Full HD up to 180 fps for 7.5x slow motion. The Mark II introduces an electronic variable ND filter, improved control system and a robust new e-mount lever-lock system to keep your lenses secure while shooting.

Super 35mm EXMOR CMOS Sensor

A large super 35mm Sony image sensor is at the core of the FS7-II with 8.9 million effective pixels that produces full 4K (4096x2160) resolution footage without pixel binning. The large sensor captures out-of-focus bokeh with ease for beautiful cinematic looking footage. The EXMOR CMOS design is capable of the extremely fast readout speeds required to deliver DCI resolutions and ultra-fast frame rates.

14 Stops of Exposure Latitude and Native ISO 2000

The sensor boasts an impressive 14 stops of exposure latitude for excellent resolving power in both the shadow and highlights as well as a superb greyscale rendition. With a native ISO of 2000 the camcorder is well equipped to shoot in darker conditions without producing nasty grain and image noise.

4K Video up to 60fps and Full HD up to 180 fps

Ultra-fast sensor readout speeds make it possible to record 4K footage at up to 60fps without needing an external recorder. The camera can also record a blazingly fast 180fps in Full HD with no time limit, for 7.5x slow motion when edited in a 23.98p timeline. The frame rate can be set as low as 1 fps, which is perfect for capturing stunning time lapse footage, ideal for transitions and as B-roll.

Built-In Variable Electronic Neutral Density Filter

Introducing an all new electronic variable ND filter to the FS7 series of camcorders means that the FS-7 2 can help you capture smooth exposure changes when moving from bright to dark conditions. Able to reduce light by as much as 7-stops the electronic ND filter lets you shoot wide open for a shallow depth-of-field even in strong light, combined with the automatic feature it is even possible to use DOF pulls as an alternative to focus pulls for creative.

Versatile E-mount System with Lever Lock

Designed to provide enhanced stability and strength, the PXW FS7II has an updated mount featuring a lens interlock system that prevents accidental removal of the lens and eradicating lens movement. The improved mount provides the strength to use longer cine zoom lenses with confidence while retaining support for the LA-EA4 lens adaptor for Sony’s range of A-mount lenses.

XAVC-I, XAVC-L and MPEG-2 Formats Supported

Sony’s FS7 II supports multiple formats, the XAVC-I (Intra) format gives you the ability to capture editing friendly 10-bit DCI footage at a bit rate of up to 600Mbps for improved post-production flexibility. The XAVC-L (Long GOP) format makes more efficient use of storage, while the MPEG-2 4:2:2 format footage is perfect for broadcast but limited to Full HD. XAVC FHD and UHD footage can be captured with 4:2:2 chroma subsampling at 10-Bit as well as UHD 4:2:0 at 8-bit quality.

S-Log3 with S-Gamut3 and S-Gamut3.cine Colour Modes

Log profiles maximise the dynamic and tonal range recorded from the cameras sensors and the FS7-II has Sony’s S-Log2 profile, as well as S-Log3, which has a dynamic range that is 1.5 stops wider. S-Log3 can be shot with an S-Gamut3.Cine colour mode that has a wider colour range than Rec.709 to faithfully reproduce the colour gamut of the DCI-P3 colour space used for digital cinema. Alternatively, S-Log3 can use the S-Gamut3 colour mode with a colour range wider than Rec.2020 to reproduce almost all actual colours, ideal when shooting footage for archival purposes.

Adjustable Ergonomic Configuration

Ergonomic flexibility and comfort is key when working on a variety of different projects and the FS7 MK2 excels in this field, with a carefully designed grip shaped for long hours of use and a series of possible configurations. The camera features a pad for on-the-shoulder shooting, a curved back for shooting from the hip, and a handle for low angle shots. The angle and length of the telescoping arm can be adjusted without tools and the new smart grip provides controls for zoom, iris, start/stop recording, and has 3 customisable buttons as well as a control joystick .

Viewfinder with Improved Versatility

The LCD and loupe viewfinder are on a 15mm rod that can be swapped out for a longer rod (not included) for comfortable left-eye operation. The square design of the viewfinder rod prevents unwanted rotation and independent clamps on the circular mounting rod ensure a range of viewing angles. With buttons for peaking, zebra and contrast controls built directly on the side of the viewfinder, the FS7 II is ideal for single operators who need access to a range of features quickly.

Dual XQD Card Slots

Dual XQD card slots allow you to record simultaneously on two cards to create an identical backup, alternatively the relay recording mode automatically switches from one card to the next when space runs out. The Mark II features XQD slots that protrude further from the camera body than the previous model that make it easier to change cards on-the-go.

Supports 4-channel Audio Input

With support for 4 channels of audio, the FS7 Mark II features significant audio functionality, it has dual XLR inputs on the right side of the body, and optional auto adapters can provide additional XLR inputs. This diverse range of audio options allow camera operators to use a combination of wireless systems as well as on-board microphones and booms to deliver a comprehensive audio solution.

Multi-Interface Shoe

Sony camcorders use a Multi-Interface (MI) Shoe that supports a range of accessories like wireless microphones and LED lights. The multi-interface shoe can act as an additional audio input from the UWP series of wireless receivers allowing you to add more audio sources to increase the production value of your project.

Rugged Dust and Drip Proof Build

Built for professional use, the Sony PXW-FS7 II camcorder has a lightweight magnesium frame with high rigidity that ensures it can withstand the rigours of on-location documentary shooting. Sealed buttons and dials protect against dust and moisture and the camera’s heat sink is cooled by an air duct carefully isolated from the electrical components

Catalyst Browse Software for PC/Mac

The included Catalyst Browse Software for PC and Mac supports Sony professional formats and makes it easy to organise and manage your video files. Additionally, metadata can be added and colour corrections can be checked.

Expandable for RAW and ProRes Functionality

The recording options on the Sony PXW-FS7 II can be dramatically improved with the optional XDCA-FS7 extension unit, that allows a 12-Bit 4K/2K RAW signal with a frame rate as fast as to be sent to compatible external recorders, and internal ProRes 422 and ProRes 422 HQ files recording to a XQD card. Multi-cam setups are even supported with Genlock and Timecode In/Out functions.
