Full Frame 42.4 Megapixel BSI Sensor

The heart and soul of the A7R III is the ultra-high-resolution Exmore R CMOS Sensor that uses a back-illuminated, gapless on-chip lens design to ensure the absolute maximum level of light and detail can be captured by the camera.

The camera has no optical low pass filter to ensure that the resolution is maximised and the sensor records the highest quality 14-bit RAW format files.

Combined with the BIONZ X Image Processor as well as a new front-end LSI this enables the camera to capture a jaw-dropping 15-stops of dynamic range for more realistic images and video footage than ever before

Incredible Auto Focus Tracking Performance

With the new front-end LSI the A7 Mark III is able to deliver fast and incredibly accurate autofocus performance and subject tracking. The sophisticated AF algorithms enhance autofocus in low-light down to EV-3.

The AF system has been inherited from Sony’s more-than-capable A9 sport series camera and offers up to 2x faster response time than the previous A7R model as well as 2x faster more precise tracking.

The camera uses a hybrid AF system that takes advantage of 425 contrast and 399 phase detection points for dramatically accurate performance across the frame.

10 fps Shooting with Full AF/AE Tracking

The A7R III captures an impressive 10 frames-a-second in the HI+ mode, when paired with a UHS-II SD card and can continuously capture up to 76 JPEG/RAW images or 28 uncompressed RAW images in one go.

The high speed of capture maintains full autofocus and auto exposure functionality so you get ultra-fast performance without compromise.

The blisteringly fast frame rate is available when shooting with the new low-vibration mechanical shutter rated for over 500,00 shutters cycles.

You can shoot just as fast with the electronic shutter, to take advantage of the ultra-fast capture rate while shooting silently, perfect for weddings.

Enhanced Eye Tracking Functionality

Portrait shooters will enjoy the improved Eye AF that uses advanced face detection technology to ensure that your subject’s eyes are always in focus.

The enhanced tracking works when the face is partially hidden, your subject is moving, looking down or blinking and even maintains focus in dim light situations.

Using the improved contrast detection points and enhanced AF algorithms the Eye AF is 2x more accurate than previous models.
