The Sekonic C-700 SpectroMaster is an incredibly accurate colour meter designed for photographers and cinematographers to capture the best possible colour in a scene using any lighting setup whether it’s sunlight, tungsten light or even LED lighting. LED lights don’t emit a full spectrum of light like HMI or Tungsten lights, which can confuse traditional meters, creating inaccurate colour and white balance readings. The C700 spectrometer uses a CMOS linear sensor to take highly accurate readings, capturing spikes and pulses of 1 nanometre (nm) making it an essential tool for ensuring the highest colour fidelity of any production.

Wide Measuring Range

With a greater sensitivity than traditional meters the C-700 is capable of accurately measuring light from any source, this is especially useful when trying to balance different light sources. Because of the spectrometer’s wide colour temperature range of 1600K-40,000K and luminance range of 1-200,000 lx it is possible to measure light from emerging light technologies like LED and electronic flash. This versatility makes it the perfect meter for use both in the studio and on location.

Precision Performance

Colour meters traditionally measure with increments of around 10nm which can miss the smaller peaks and pulses in the spectral profile of LED’s and other lights. The C-700 uses a CMOS linear sensor to measure and analyse the colour temperature of any light source from 380 to 780nm in 1 nm increments for significantly increased accuracy.

Electronic Flash Support

The Sekonic meter can measure electronic flash as well, not for exposure settings like a light meter but rather to help you balance the colour of the flash in your scene by identifying the appropriate filters for your flash unit to match with the rest of your lighting. Flash units lighting can be analysed in the cordless flash mode or triggered via a PC sync port in the cord flash mode.

Easy to Use Features

A 270° articulating measuring head allows you to spin the meter to face your light source but keep the screen where you can read it, the meter also has a 1/4-inch thread at the back of the device for easy tripod mounting. It runs on two AA batteries (not included) and can store up to 99 individual light measurements internally.

4.3-Inch Colour Touchscreen

Using a massive 4.3-inch colour touchscreen the C700 has easy-to-navigate menus and customisable display options so you can set the meter up depending on your requirements. The touch capability makes it easy to change settings and the large colour screen means you can clearly see your results. The main screen can be opened at any time by pressing the menu button to provide quick access to the different function modes.

Custom Colour Measurement Modes

The text mode allows you to set a target colour temperature and displays real-time measurements with 5 different customisable fields that can display brightness, colour temperature along with many other settings.

Spectrum Modes

The spectrum mode displays a coloured graph of the measured light so you can identify the colour distribution of your light source while the comparison mode allows you to display multiple colour readings on the same graph.

Colour Rendition Index Mode

The CRI screen shows standard colour reference values ranging from R1 to R15 that indicate the accuracy with which a colour will be reproduced. It can be useful to test how accurate your lights CRI ratings are and adjust accordingly.

Filter Modes

The camera filter mode help you determine the correction filters required to achieve your target white balance, you can set the brand between Kodak Wrattan/Lee or Fujifilm camera filters for a specific filter recommendation to place in front of the lens. The lighting filter takes a similar reading but displays values to modify your lighting setup with filter brands like Lee, Rosco Cinegel, or Rosco E-Colour+ filters. Both modes display light balance and colour correction readings.

Multi-Light Mode

Making it easier to balance different combinations of lights, the multi-light mode allows you to record up to 4 different light sources to be matched. Define your main light and the meter shows the light balancing and colour compensating filters required to correctly match the colour temperatures.

White Balance Correction Mode

In this mode, the meter displays your colour measurement as a red dot plotted on a white balance correction graph, it also displays the necessary light balance and colour compensating filters needed to reach your target white balance.

C-700 Series Application Software

The application software include with the Sekonic C-700-U Spectrometer allows you to store metered values as graph or text for easy matching and repeatability of effects. Firmware updates can be made using the built-in USB port whenever necessary ensuring the SpectroMaster is future-proof.
