The Pentax KP is optimised for performance in low light shooting situations with a 24.3-megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor, in-body 5-axis shake reduction, and an ISO range from 100 all the way up to an impressive 819200. The sensor boasts an advanced pixel shift resolution function that works with the stabilisation system to deliver high definition images with true-to-life colour accuracy and outstanding sharpness. With a rugged weatherproof construction, slim body design and customisable handgrips the Pentax KP is a fantastically versatile, low-light powerhouse.

24.3 Megapixel Quality Imaging

The PENTAX KP features a 24.3 megapixel APS-C-CMOS image sensor that is able to produce super sharp images due to its unique design. Constructed without an anti-aliasing filter, the sensor captures finely detailed images with true-to-life reproduction of texture, an accurate sense of depth, and boasts incredible low-light abilities.

Super-High Sensitivity

The sophisticated sensor is combined with a high performance Prime IV imaging engine and state of the art accelerator unit that enables the camera to shoot up to ISO 819200 sensitivity making the camera ideal for night photography and handheld shooting in extremely low light. The processor enables the capture of 14-bit RAW images that offer a wider range to faithfully reproduce gradations in colour, ideal for landscape and nightscape imagery.

In-body Stabilisation

The KP’s incorporates Shake Reduction II (SR II) technology built directly into the image sensor that effectively compensate up to 5 shutter steps with any attached lens. This means that handheld shooting is possible in darker shooting situations even with telephoto or vintage lenses.

5-Axis Shake Reduction

In addition to common camera shake caused by pitch, yaw and roll axes, the SR II system is also capable of counteracting shake caused by horizontal and vertical shift so you can shoot blur-free close-up macro and low light photography.

Sports Ready

The SR II stabilisation mechanism can detect panning movements and modify the shake reduction system for optimised pan shots. Combined with a high speed autofocus system, 7 frames a second burst mode, a super-fast electronic shutter of 1/24000 and an advanced optical viewfinder make the KP ideal for sports shooters who demand fast performance and accurate focus.

Pixel Shift Resolution

The Pixel Shift Resolution system uses the camera’s shake reduction system to move the sensor in single-pixel increments for capturing four separate images combined into a single high-definition composite image with exceptional clarity, true-to-life colour reproduction & reduced image noise.

Composition Adjustment and Horizon Correction

The Pentax KP allows you to shift the sensor up/down and left/right by up to a millimetre, as well as rotate by up to a degree. This lets you fine-tune your composition without moving the camera and allows you to capture multiple images to combine together into an ultra-wide shot.

Anti-Aliasing Filter Simulator

The camera’s anti-aliasing filter simulator applies microscopic vibrations to the image sensor at a sub-pixel level to provide the same level of moiré reduction as an optical AA filter. You can also adjust the level of the simulator to suit the particular scene.

Astrotracer

By combining the power the optional O-GPS1 GPS unit with the sensor shift mechanism, the Astrotracer function tracks the movement of celestial bodies such as stars and planets, allowing you to shoot clear sharp astro-photography without blurry streaks. The system synchronises the motion of the CMOS sensor to capture stars as points of light rather than star trails during long exposures.

27-Point High-Speed Autofocus

The Pentax KP has a SAFOX 11 phase-detection autofocus module, combined with a state-of-the-art algorithm to provide highly responsive and accurate autofocus for all types of photography. With 25 cross-type points and two wide angle linear sensors the system provides 27 points to accurately track moving subjects.

Low Light Autofocus

Boasting three centrally positioned autofocus points rated for fast f/2.8 lenses the KP ensures accurate focus when using the bright aperture lenses required for low light shooting. The high-sensitivity AF sensors are capable of performing at up to -3 EV for capturing in focus images even in dark scenes.

Full HD Video Recording

The Pentax KP records true-to-life Full HD movies in the popular H.264 recording format. A 3.5mm audio in allows you to record high-quality sound using an external microphone. The camera offers an interval movie mode that combines a series of still images captured at a fixed interval to create a single 4K movie file perfect for high resolution time-lapses.

Interchangeable Grip System

The Pentax features an exchangeable grip so you can customise the camera’s handling to suit your shooting style. In addition to the included O-GP167 small grip, the Pentax KP can also be used with two optional grips. The O-GP1671 is a medium sized grip better for standard zoom lenses and the large O-GP1672 is designed to give you a confident grip on your gear while shooting with large telephoto lenses.

Compact and Weather-Sealed Body

The compact and lightweight design of the KP is complemented by a tough magnesium body that helps you to get the shot regardless of the weather conditions. The camera is dust and weather-resistant with 67 seals across the body to enable shooting in extreme outdoor conditions. Its freeze-proof design allows it to operate at temperatures as low as -10°C.

Built for a Range of Conditions

With an electromagnetically shielded body the Pentax KP is designed to offer enhanced protection while at the same time helping you capture spotless images by using an advanced dust removal mechanism that removes dust from the image sensor with ultrasonic vibrations. In addition, the KP also boasts dual SD card slots for an even larger storage capacity.

Tilt LCD Monitor and Viewfinder

Helping you to push your creativity to the next level the camera has a 3.0-inch vertical-tilt LCD monitor to enable vari-angle shooting, unlocking a range of new perspectives and angles for you to shoot from. In addition, the KP offers a glass pentaprism optical viewfinder which offers a 100% field-of-view and 0.95x magnification as well as a real-time response while tracking your subject.

Wi-Fi Connectivity

The benefit of having built-in Wi-Fi means the camera is capable of broadcasting its own wireless network which can be used to remotely control the camera, transfer files and display a live view directly on your mobile device.

Advanced Shooting Modes

Offering a choice of different customisable modes, the KP gives you the ability to shoot a wide range of styles, as well allowing quick and efficient changes between modes. As well as the standard Tv and Av modes there are a selection of new modes and features to take your photography further.

Sv Mode
In this mode you set the desired sensitivity setting of your shot and the camera automatically calculates the corresponding combination of aperture and shutter speed to achieve the correct exposure.

TAv Mode
The TAv mode allows you to choose the aperture and shutter speed and the camera will select the corresponding ISO setting to correctly expose your shot.

Depth of Field Bracketing
This mode capture three images at different aperture settings giving you a choice of different levels of background blur.

Motion Bracketing
This mode captures three images at different shutter speed settings in order to either freeze motion or introduce creative motion blur.

Green Button
The use of the green button allows you to instantly set the exposure for your shot even in the manual mode with a simple push of a button.

Boasting a long list of advanced capabilities, the Pentax KP is able to cover a range of shooting situations from more casual snapshots all the way through to serious outdoor landscape photography in extreme weather conditions. The low light shooting abilities and astrotracer function make it perfect for astro-photography, while the fast autofocus and sophisticated stabilisation system mean you can confidently shoot sports and fast moving subjects.
