The Pentax 645Z represents the forefront of photographic technology. Targeted at the seasoned photographic professional, this medium-format DSLR combines a rugged weather resistant, dust-proof exterior with a 51.4 megapixel sensor that produces immersive, ultra-high resolution images.

The extra-large CMOS sensor measures approximately 43.8mmx32.8mm to deliver a light sensitive surface area 1.7x larger than your traditional 35mm full-frame sensor. Image quality is further bolstered with the exclusion of a low-pass filter ensuring every possible ounce of light is captured and faithfully reproduced.

A powerful PRIME III image processor delivers a maximum ISO204800 to effectively minimise noise and deliver vivid photos with a stunning lifelike sense of depth. The image processor also enables a 3fps continuous burst mode, state of the art autofocus and improved camera responsiveness allowing professionals to take medium-format photography into a newer and more contemporary direction.

RAW files are recorded at 14-bit to provide optimal post-processing versatility and can be saved in either the proprietary Pentax PEF format or the more application friendly Adobe DNG format.

Metering is handled by an advanced Real-Time Scene Analysis System which takes imaging data from an 86,000 pixel RGB light-metering sensor and processes it using a fine-tuned algorithm. This data is then relayed back to the photographer as valuable information regarding the exposure settings, white balance and autofocus accuracy of a particular scene.

The 645Z is also capable of Full High Definition movies recorded at up to 60fps. The large sensor is excellent at producing cinematic style footage with razor sharp detail, accurate colour reproduction and excellent background separation. A dedicated movie record button allows the photographer to switch from stills to movies immediately. An on-board microphone records stereo quality sound with an option to plug in an external mic for more advanced audio requirements.

Image composition is delivered via a large, bright trapezoidal glass prism which offers an approximate 98% field of view. It is coupled with a Natural-Bright Matte focusing screen for razor sharp detail, easier focusing and reduced eye-strain during those extended shooting stints. A large 3.2-inch tilt-able LCD screen is housed at the rear of the camera. Featuring a 1,037,000-dot resolution,the angle of the LCD can be adjusted for easier high or low-angle framing. An anti-reflection coating combined with an air-gapless construction eliminates the space between each LCD layer to ensure optimal visibility in bright daylight conditions.
