The Meade ETX90 Observer is a computerised telescope that comes with an AudioStar controller to provide you with sophisticated GoTo capabilities. This helps you quickly align your telescope and find interesting things to look at, both on the ground and in the night sky. The telescope employs a Maksutov-Cassegrain optical design, providing excellent contrast and resolution. The 90mm aperture and 1250mm focal length offer an exceptional field of view for your observing. Using a separately available adapter, the ETX90 can also be used with a DSLR camera for prime-focus astrophotography, allowing amateur new astronomers to capture their discoveries.

Automatic Observations with GoTo Controller

The Meade ETX90 Observer has a motorised mount and is fully GoTo capable thanks to its AudioStar hand controller. This allows the telescope to automatically find and point to interesting celestial bodies using the controller’s extensive 30,000 object database.

Maksutov-Cassegrain Optical Path

A Maksutov-Cassegrain style optical path allows the telescope to deliver sharp images with extraordinary contrast. This makes it a great choice for deep sky viewing as well as providing excellent lunar and terrestrial observation at high-magnifications.

90mm Wide Aperture for Clear Viewing

The ETX90’s 90mm aperture captures an impressive amount of light and, along with its f/13.8 focal ratio and 1250mm focal length, it offers very clear viewing details of objects near and far.

Advanced Multicoated Optics

The front convex meniscus lens corrects spherical, chromatic, or off-axis aberrations eliminating the need for periodic alignments and providing reliably sharp results. Ultra-High Transmission multi-coatings and aluminium coatings on the primary mirror combine to reduce light-loss, thereby increasing colour fidelity and contrast.

Internal Flip Mirror for Astrophotography

When used for direct observation, the telescope’s 90° internal flip-mirror routes the image to the eyepiece holder for viewing. When used for astrophotography, the flip-mirror redirects the image to a DSLR fixed onto the telescope via a T-adapter and a T-ring (available separately).

Two Magnification Eyepieces

2 Super Plössl eye pieces are included with the ETX90. A 26mm eyepiece with 48x magnification and a 1.04° field of view; double the diameter of the full moon and a more powerful 9.7mm eyepiece with a 129x magnification for detailed observation of planets and star clusters. A 1.25-inch diameter barrel is also provided for astrophotography and can be used with filters and accessories.

AudioStar Controller with Object Database

The AudioStar hand controller features GoTo technology to provide precise control of the motorised mount with 9 speeds. The controller has a 2-line LED display for viewing settings and a red backlit keypad for use in all lighting conditions. The controller’s internal database of over 30,000 objects can be updated with future additions or firmware upgrades by connecting it to the internet.

Dual DC Servo Motors

Two encoder powered DC servo motors control the telescope’s movements, powered by 8 x AA batteries for up to 20 hours when using the AudioStar controller. Alternatively, it has a 9V-12V DC port that lets you run the ETX90 on mains power with a separately available AC/DC adapter.

Precise Tracking with Altazimuth Mount

The dual fork altazimuth mount uses ascension and declination DC drive motors to precisely track objects with the AudioStar controller. The removable optical tube assembly lets you lift the scope off the fork mount entirely and put it on a tripod using its 1/4-inch thread, ideal for land viewing.

Red-dot Finder and Utility Light

An illuminated non-magnifying straight-through red dot finder helps you locate subjects faster and enables easy alignment for objects in the sky or on land. A built-in red LED light provides enough light to see star charts or change eyepieces in the dark without ruining your night adjusted vision.

Sturdy, Adjustable Tripod

The telescope’s base has 2 tethered thumbscrews that let you attach the tripod quickly and a spring-loaded spreader bar helps the legs expand easily and assists with setup. The tripod features a bubble level that, along with the included compass, helps you level the telescope and find north easily.

Built in Equatorial Plate

The ETX90 Observer has an equatorial tilt plate designed for precise polar alignment. The plate ranges between 20° to 90° latitudes so the telescope can be aligned to the celestial poles for more accurate object location and sidereal rate tracking. A Periodic Error Correction feature helps prevent and correct periodic errors that might occur in long-exposure images with a linked DSLR camera.

Hard Case and Carry Bag Included

The Meade ETX90 Observer Maksutov-Cassegrain telescope comes with a lockable hard case to help you safely transport your telescope. A separate, soft carry bag is also included for the tripod, making this an ideal, portable set-up for casual observers and first time telescope owners.
