Now sporting a robust carbon fibre frame, the DJI Ronin 2 is a redesign of the original Roninhandheld gimbal stabiliser. Updated with more power and torque, the 3-axis motorised stabilisation system is capable of supporting large professional cinema cameras up to 13.6kg. An innovative design makes the gimbal more versatile, suitable for handheld applications, or mounted to other video support rigs such as jibs, cranes, Steadicams, cable cams, vehicles and aerial mounts. The Ronin 2 includes updated SmoothTrack, integrated GPS and supports easy transition between Upright and Underslung modes without changing the position of the camera.
Reliable 3-Axis Stabilisation
Using the same technology that DJI pioneered and perfected in their original Ronin, the Ronin 2 features a reliable 3-axis gimbal system that compensates for vibrations caused by movement. This lets you operate your camera rig completely handheld, preventing unwanted shakiness and allowing you to get up-close and creative when framing scenes.
Advanced Processing and Brushless Motors
Powered by advanced stabilisation algorithms and high precision 32-bit processors, the gimbal’s three brushless motors respond to every minor movement to keep the camera stable and maintain a levelled horizon, assuring incredibly smooth, graceful and steady footage.
Enhanced Power for Heavier Payloads
The Ronin 2 gives filmmakers complete freedom when it comes to cameras. With up to eight times more torque before, the powerful motors can resist wind, the high G-forces when mounted to a vehicle, and are capable of accurately stabilising large professional rigs and heavy cinema lenses weighing up to 13.6kg.
SmoothTrack Technology
The gimbal boasts a high level of control for solo operators with its SmoothTrack system that translates your pan, tilt and roll actions into smooth camera movements without needing a second operator. The Ronin 2’s SmoothTrack algorithm has been enhanced for better performance and to respond to a wider range of camera configurations. It also includes a new two-axis operation mode specifically designed for mounting the gimbal to Steadicams.
Extreme Precision GPS
An on-board GPS provides accurate acceleration and speed information to keep the camera steady and the horizon levelled with up to ±0.02° of accuracy even when moving at speeds or under high G-force situations. This is perfect for filming action scenes like speeding car chases and aerial shots.
Flexible Mounting
Though primarily designed for handheld operations, the Ronin 2 is extremely versatile. A quick release on the yaw arm detaches the handgrip for convenient transportation and for easy switching from handheld operations to ready rigs, jibs, cranes, car and drone mounts, plus many more. This functionality gives you the creative freedom to explore every perspective with stability and control.
Multiple Operation Modes
The Ronin 2 can be held in three ways to suit your shooting scenarios. It offers the freedom to transition between the three modes without changing the orientation of the camera.
- Upright Mode is designed to shoot at or above eye-level, perfect for shooting out of a car's sunroof or above a crowd of people.
- Underslung Mode places the camera at chest level and is the most comfortable position to the hold the gimbal for extended periods of time.
- Briefcase Mode highlights the versatility of the gimbal and enables you to shoot low to the ground and close to your body. It works well on tight sets and for low perspective shots.
Redesigned Carbon Fibre Frame
The gimbal now features a carbon fibre monocoque style frame, making the platform durable, lightweight and easy to carry. Its self-supporting design includes retractable feet that let you to it down without the need for a separate stand. A splash-proof enclosed motor design with internally routed power, SDI and data cabling enables worry-free shooting in the most demanding environments.
Fast Setup and Precise Balancing
A re-designed camera mounting plate with fine-tune adjustment knobs on each axis enable more precise and faster balancing without any tools. Auto Tune Stability (ATS) subsequently completes the balancing process by adjusting motor parameters based on the weight of your equipment. This helps you save time when frequently changing camera and lens combinations.
Built-in Touch Panel
A super-bright touch screen is built into the yaw arm of the gimbal. It displays important parameters and lets you configure settings, access intelligent features, calibrate the unit, and even provide control over a mounted RED camera. In addition, conveniently located tactile buttons bordering the screen provide quick access to functions like motor pause and mounting mode selection.
Smartphone App Control
Using DJI’s Gimbal Assistant App, settings can be controlled using your iOS or Android Smart device. The app provides an intuitive and easy-to-use interface for parameters like SmoothTrack settings, motor stiffness, gimbal operation modes and direct control of some cameras. The updated App includes new smart shooting functions to easily capture complicated camera moves.
Intelligent Shooting Modes
These pre-programed smart functions allow you to easily capture cinematic camera movement that would otherwise require specialised expertise or additional equipment.
- CamAnchor: Saves the gimbal’s movements for quick subsequent recall to improve efficiency.
- Track: Creates smooth, dynamic time-lapse footage.
- Panorama mode: Based on camera sensor type, lens focal length and user-defined image overlap rate, the gimbal captures still images for creating stitch panoramas.
Hot-Swap up to 8 Hours of Power
Dual 4280mAh intelligent batteries power the gimbal providing up to 8 hours of runtime and can be hot-swapped for uninterrupted shooting. Overcharge and over depletion protection help optimise battery performance and a self-heating function ensures reliable power in cold temperatures down to -20° C. Remaining power is shown by LEDs on the battery and in the Assistant mobile app.
Detachable Battery System
To reduce weight during usage, the battery system can be completely detached allowing the gimbal to be powered by a DC-Out port on the battery mount using the included power cable. This excellent feature helps reduce operator fatigue, perfect for working in a smaller areas and studios.
Power to your Accessories
The gimbal’s high capacity batteries can simultaneously power separately available RED Dragon cameras and select accessories like the DJI Focus, external monitors, wireless video transmission systems, and more. A dedicated power distribution box provides connections to accessories, simplifying your charging regime, while keeping wiring to a minimum for a clean appearance.
Remote Control
The remote control operates using both 2.4/5.8 GHz frequencies and can control the gimbal over a maximum distance of 1km in ideal conditions. It can control the movement of some cameras and start/stop recording remotely. This allows you to work with the gimbal mounted on rigs, cable cams, jib arms, and more.
Dual Operator Support
The remote also provides dual operator support for more complex scene capture. Have one person to hold and manoeuvre the gimbal, while the second controls camera movement. This leads to a greater level of control and precision.
Accessory Mounting
Dual 15mm LWS rods and a rod mount let you add separately available follow-focuses or matte boxes. In addition, an included accessory mount means you can attach field monitors, recorders, lights, microphones, and other accessories on the handgrip.Supports Drone Mounted Operations
The Ronin 2 can be mounted to a pro-level drone equipped with a DJI A3 Flight Controller and Lightbridge, opening up a world of professional aerial cinematography. This gives you the same reliable stability in the air and on the ground for consistent looking footage.
