8.85 Megapixel Super 35mm CMOS Sensor

At the heart of the Canon EOS C200 is an 8.85-megapixel 16:9 CMOS sensor that captures high-resolution video data. The size of the Super 35 sensor allows it to perfectly simulate the view angle and depth of field of traditional 35mm film. Rolling shutter and distortion is reduced due to the sensors fast read-out speed which also unlocks the high bit rates required for RAW video recording.

Internal 4K Recording with Cinema RAW Light

The C200 is Canon’s first cinema camera to record video footage in Cinema RAW Light for files that can be as much as 1/5 the size of Cinema Raw files. This enables the capture of 10-bit or 12-bit footage with frames rates up to 60p internally to a CFast 2.0 card and eliminates the need for an external recorder. RAW recording can use the entire dynamic range of the sensor to provide a high degree of colour grading felability as well as optimisation for HDR workflows.

Up to 15-Stops of Dynamic Range with the Cinema Raw Development Tool

Cinema RAW Light footage can be processed using Canon’s free Cinema Raw Development tool with an extended colour gamut and converted to gamma like Canon Log 2 or 3 for a remarkably wide dynamic range of up to 15-stops. This allows you to take advantage of a massive amount of detail in both the highlights and shadows of your scene. It is also possible to record with Canon Log 3 direct to SD card in MP4 fomat with 13 stops of dynamic range.

Dual DIGIC DV 6 Image Processors

The C200 has two DIGIC DV6 processors that work in tandem to crunch the huge amount of image data produced by the camera’s sensor. This hefty processing power allows the camera to capture 12/10-bit RAW Light format footage, use Canon log colour profiles and shoot 120 fps slow-motion video. It also enables simultaneous proxy recording, the oversample of 4K footage to Full HD and 2K resolutions and lets operators use Canon’s highly regarded Dual Pixel CMOS AF and Dual Pixel Focus Guide modes.

Dual Pixel Auto Focus System

Canon’s cutting edge Dual Pixel CMOS Auto Focus system uses specially designed sensor technology to achieve accurate and reliable autofocus performance. Each pixel is configured with two photodiodes which independently detect light. The two streams of image data are processed in real time and the phase difference of each signal is compared to identify how the focus on the lens should be adjusted to keep the subject as sharp as possible.

Manual Focus Dual Pixel Focus Guide

The Dual Pixel autofocus system can be used to assist manual focus operation by displaying focus information on the screen or EVF of the camera. A rectangular box can be positioned in the frame to confirm whether a section is in focus and if it’s not what direction the focus needs to be adjusted to achieve sharp focus. An AF Boosted MF mode allows you to select the point of focus by partially directing the AF and letting the camera smoothly finish the transition. Manual focus is also possible remotely from a smart device or computer with the browser remote for complete focus control.

Completely Customisable Auto Focus System

Operators can use a range of AF modes on the C200 for complete focus control with features like one-touch AF that allows you to use the LCD touchscreen to choose your focus point. A continuous AF mode is also available with 80% sensor coverage that tracks moving subjects within the frame. Face detection is also available to ensure that your subject is always sharp and in focus. The autofocus settings can also be customised with parameters like autofocus speed, tracking sensitivity, and AF frame size.

Outstanding Low Light Sensitivity

The large Super 35mm CMOS sensor inside the C200 features a wide pixel pitch that allows it to maximise available light for better results in darker conditions. Combined with the cameras impressive extended ISO range of 100 to 102,400 and a gain of 54dB this means you can capture scenes in extremely low lighting with minimal noise, making this camera an excellent choice for run-and-gun operators who don’t always have control over the light in their scene.

Shoots 4K UHD, DCI Resolution Video

Capable of internally recording 4K DCI footage (4096 x 2160) for the best quality and resolution, the Canon C 200 also shoots 60p 4K UHD (3840 x 2160) at a whopping 150Mbps straight to an internal SD card. With the inclusion of the HDMI port it is possible to output 8-bit 4:2:0 with a 4K UHD resolution at 60p to an external recorder or monitor or alternatively 10-bit 4:2:2 HD using the SDI port.

Oversampling for High Quality 2K and Full HD Footage

The camera uses sophisticated oversampling from the 4K capable sensor to product 2K and Full HD footage that is significantly sharper than if it had been shot without oversampling. In addition, the camera record Full HD video to an internal SD card at 35Mbps with 4:2:0 chroma subsampling in an 8-bit MP4 format using H.264 Long-GOP compression for a convenient balance between file size and quality.

Simultaneous 2K Proxy Recording and Relay Record Modes

While 4K RAW video is being recorded to a CFast card, 2K proxy video can be simultaneously recorded to an SD card in compact MP4 file format for an improved editing workflow. The double SD card slots allow relay recording so if card fills up with footage it can overflow to the second slot. The mirror recording mode creates an instant back-up copy to safe guard against data loss or corruption.

120fps Slow Motion Full HD Recording Speeds

Thanks to the sensor’s fast readout speed, the EOS C200 can record high frame rates shots with up to 120fps in Full HD with no sensor crop. This gives you the ability to shoot smooth ultra-slow-motion sequences perfect for fast moving subjects.

Full Equipped for Single Camera Operators

The C200 is a versatile cinematic tool and it offers comprehensive control and useful features designed for single operators and small film crews. An adjustable and detachable 1.23-million dot 4-inch LCD Touchscreen allows for touch AF, combined with the 1.77-million dot OLED Electronic viewfinder this allows you to accurately check the composition and focus.

Refined Ergonomic Design

With a modular design, the cinema camera can be customised to meet your demands for optimised shooting comfort. The camera includes a removable hand grip with a built-in assignable function button, joystick and run/stop trigger for controlling the camera features. The top handle unit can be attached without tools, providing the option to shoot from high and low angles for more unique perspectives.

Comprehensive Audio Capabilities

Dual XLR audio terminals with +48V Phantom Power as well as a 3.5mm microphone input can be used to record 2-channel AAC or 4-channel Linear PCM with a sampling frequency of 48 kHz and audio sampling depth of 16 bit. The audio inputs can be set for automatic as well as manual gain for complete audio control.

In-Camera Optical Neutral Density Filters

Built-in ND filters maximise shooting flexibility by allowing you to shoot with wider apertures for a shallower depth of field or slower shutter speeds for more creative looking shots without the risk of overexposure. A mechanical dual rotary ND filter gives you the ability to reduce exposure by 2, 4, 6, 8, or 10 stops with the press of a button.

Comprehensive EF Lens Compatibility

By using an EF mount on the body Canon have ensured that the camera is compatible with a wide range of their EF, EF-S and CN-E lenses to provide a massive selection prime and zoom lens options. When using different lenses, a registry of correction data for compatible lenses can be applied to correct peripheral illumination drop or chromatic aberration. The camera can also display either the F-value or the T-value of the lens so you can select the setting you prefer while shooting.

Remote Camera Operations

Ethernet connectivity built into the Canon EOS C-200 cinema camera enables file transfer via FTP and an integrated Wi-Fi connection allows for a browser remote function that enables you to remotely see a live preview feed and control the camera from a connected PC, tablet or smartphone. This means you can seamlessly control the Canon OES C200 while it is attached to a crane, jib or mounted to a gimbal or a drone for endless shooting options.

All the functions and features above combine to make the C200 one of the most versatile cinema cameras on the market to date, perfectly suited for run and gun video shooters and small film crews.
