Memory Card Error
If you get a message on your camera such as "Memory Card Error"
AND there are no photos that you want still on the card, the first step
is to format the card through
the camera menu (Note: if you have an xD card, once you re-format your card any
photos cannot be recovered.). Read your camera manual to see how to format your memory card. If this does not help, try another memory card (say the small 16/32mb card
that came in the box with the camera). If this card does not display a "memory
card error", then the other card
is at fault.
If you do have valuable photos on the card,
then DO NOTHING (do NOT format the card, do NOT take any more photos). You need
to undertake a photo recovery. For options on
Photo Recovery,
Once you have recovered your photos and archived them, then reformat the memory
card through the camera as outlined above.
