The Nikon D800 is a high-performance digital SLR camera sporting a brand new 36.3 Megapixel FX format CMOS sensor and EXPEED 3 image processor delivering exceptional, ultra-high resolution images and fast performance that will delight professional photographers, videographers and advanced enthusiasts alike. With a huge ISO range of 50 to 25,600 the D800 can shoot in all sorts of conditions: from the studio; to extreme low-light handheld. Its 51-point AF system achieves enhanced performance in subject acquisition and low-light focusing, as well as optical viewfinder face detection thanks to the Advanced Scene Recognition system. Full HD movie recording is possible in FX and DX formats in a range of frame rates, and boasts vastly improved control of rolling shutter, uncompressed HD video via its HDMI out, and comprehensive audio recording controls.

Ultra-high resolution 36.3 Megapixel FX-Format CMOS Sensor – Brand new Nikon FX-format CMOS sensor (35.9 x 24.0 mm) with 36.3 effective megapixels, the world's highest number for a DSLR. It renders texture, nuances and details equivalent to those of a high-end medium format camera. 14-bit A/D conversion within the sensor and a high signal-to-noise ratio deliver phenomenal images in a diverse array of situations. Print A1 poster size at 200dpi or crop aggressively.

EXPEED 3 Image-Processing Engine - EXPEED 3 performs multiple tasks at blindingly fast speeds, and delivers faithful, well-saturated colour, natural depth and an exceptionally wide dynamic range, giving subtle and nuanced tones. Even when shooting in dim lighting at high ISO sensitivities, the camera's intelligent noise reduction lowers noise without degrading image sharpness for both stills and video shooting.

Standard ISO 100 to ISO 6400 range, expandable to ISO 50 to 25600 – Capture crisp clean images across a wide ISO range. Even at high ISO settings, the camera's intelligent noise reduction systems manage noise without sacrificing fine details, giving the D800 the edge when shooting handheld in extreme low-light situations.

Optical Low-pass Filter Optimized for Sharpness – The D800’s low-pass filter has been optimized to achieve the best balance between sharpness and effectively prevented moiré artefacts and false colour.

3D Color Matrix Metering III - 91K-pixel RGB sensor - Thanks to the 91K-pixel RGB sensor, the D800 has far more detailed scene information at its disposal — including detected face information. This data helps the 3D color matrix metering III deliver more desirable auto exposures, especially when there are human faces present. Auto White Balance is incredibly accurate in a range of situations.

Refined Colour Temp Control – Can now adjust manual colour temperature in 10kelvin increments for finer control of colour balance.

More balanced Results in i-TTL Balanced Fill-Flash and Active D-Lighting - With the D800/D800E's enhanced i-TTL balanced fill-flash, you can more precisely illuminate people's faces in relation to their surrounding brightness using built-in flash or external Speedlight – useful for shooting weddings/fashion events.

Lateral Chromatic Aberration Reduction - High-megapixel sensors can really test the quality of your lenses - the combination of brilliant NIKKOR lenses and Nikon's intelligent processing measures will significantly reduce lateral chromatic aberration to give you incredibly natural-looking results.

Direct Access to Picture Control – now access Picture Control instantly and directly from a dedicated button, for quickly customising the look of your stills and videos.

Advanced Multi-CAM 3500FX AF Sensor Module - The 51 sensor points in the D800s AF sensor module work down to -2 EV – the limit of human visibility through an optical viewfinder. Features a range of versatile AF modes you can tailor to your subject/shooting.

15 cross-type sensors in the central area and 11 focus points compatible with f/8 - The D800 aligns its 15 cross-type sensors in the central viewfinder area to detect contrast in both vertical and horizontal lines for better AF performance. Each cross-type sensor is responsive with f/5.6 or greater. Moreover, 11 focus points are compatible with f/8. This delivers a new level of potential when using teleconverters on super telephoto lenses and shooting distant subjects, such as sports or wildlife.

Easy selection of AF mode and AF-area mode combinations – AF-mode button and main and sub-command dials easily change AF modes without taking your eye away from the viewfinder.

Continuous Shooting up to 6 fps - Approx. 4 fps capability in FX format, approx. 5 fps in 1.2x and DX format and approx. 6 fps capability in DX format with MB-D12*.
* requires batteries other than EN-EL15 in grip

Accurate Face detection auto-area AF and subject tracking in 3D-tracking- When people's faces are priority subjects, the Advanced Scene Recognition System with the camera's auto-area AF mode accurately recognizes human faces and achieves sharp focus immediately and automatically - useful when there's no time to manually choose focus point.

Full HD D-Movie Shooting with Minimised Rolling Shutter – Uses B frame data compression method to record 1080p Full HD video at 30p in H.264/MPEG-4 AVC format for up to approx. 29 min. 59 s of recording in a single clip. New image sensor outputs video at faster rates than ever, significantly reducing rolling shutter that can occur during panning shots or when shooting fast-moving lateral subjects. Shoot ultra-high resolution movies with reduced noise, even in challenging low-light conditions!

Multi-area mode for Full HD D-Movies – You can shoot in either FX format for exceptional shallow DOF; or DX format for an image area similar to 35mm movie film. Utilise a greater range of Nikkor lenses!

Auto Flicker Reduction – can choose auto flicker reduction; or select between 50hz and 60hz to reduce flicker when shooting under fluorescent or mercury lights.

Comprehensive High-fidelity Audio Recording Control – Built-in stereo mic, or attach an external mic for clearer audio recording. An external headphone jack enables you to monitor while audio level indicators offer visual confirmation of audio level. Microphone sensitivity can be adjusted in 20 incremental steps.

Simultaneous Live View Output on External Monitors and Record Uncompressed Video Via HDMI - you can now simultaneously check videos on an external monitor* using an HDMI connection, in addition to the camera's TFT monitor. And for those who need the purest video output for professional quality editing, you can now record uncompressed movie live view footage directly to an external storage device via HDMI interface.
* When video is output through HDMI interface simultaneously with recording to a CF/SD card, output image through HDMI interface will be smaller than 1,280 x 720.

Versatile Custom Settings for D-Movie - Power aperture enables smoother aperture controls during movie live view using a button designated via custom menu. Index marking to locate important frames for later-stage in-camera editing and replay by attaching markers during movie recording.

HDR (High Dynamic Range) – In-camera HDR that shoots two differently exposed images and combines them for a wide dynamic range image to retain highlights and avoid blocked shadows in high-contrast scenes.

Active D-Lighting - preserves details in both highlights and shadowy areas of high-contrast scenes

Time-lapse Photography - allows you to shoot time-lapse photography with replaying rates from 24 times to 36,000 times faster than normal. Time-lapse photography files can be saved as a movie file (16:9).

Shoot In Multiple Formats - Offers four image area options: FX format (35.9 x 24.0 mm), 5:4 (30.0 x 24.0 mm), 1.2x (30.0 x 19.9 mm), and DX format (23.4 x 15.6 mm) with all cropped image areas visually masked in the viewfinder

100% Glass Prism Optical Viewfinder – large, bright optical viewfinder with approx. 100% frame coverage and a focusing screen that is also carefully designed to help you sense sharp focus intuitively, be it manual or autofocus.

High-precision, high-durability shutter - shutter unit has been tested to well over 200,000 cycles of release for durability and precision.

High-speed CF and SD Dual Card Slots - CF memory card slot is compatible with UDMA 7. The SD card slot is compatible with SDXC and UHS-I. You can also use two cards simultaneously for recording JPEG and RAW data on separate cards, recording the same data simultaneously on two cards for backup, and more.

Fast Start-up Time – camera starts up in just 0.12 seconds

3.2-inch 921k-dot LCD with Wide Viewing Angle and Auto Brightness - large and sharp LCD monitor delivers bright, crisp image playback with a much larger capacity for accurate colour reproduction. Camera detects conditions and adjusts brightness automatically

High-speed data transfer with USB 3.0 - Compatible with USB 3.0 for a more productive tethered and transfer workflow. When connected to equipment featuring USB 2.0, speed is reduced to that of USB 2.0.

Efficient Power Management – Achieves 900 shots from one charge of the EN-EL15 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery.

MB-D12 Multi-Power Battery Pack (optional) – extends battery life, achieves up to 6fps in DX mode, and provides dedicated shutter button and command dials in portrait orientation.
