Gitzo was founded in France in 1917 by Arsène Gitzhoven, who produced cameras, cable releases, shutters (at a rate of 750 per day) and filmpack frames for the photographic industry until 1942, when the World War led to the company being temporarily dismantled. Production started again in 1944 and tripods were introduced to the Gitzo’s product range in the 1950’s.

Ricoh are holding their 8th Ricoh Photo Contest from 30th May 2008 to 29th August 2008. Fujifilm Australia has announced the Z200fd will be coming to Australia. It features a 10 megapixel sensor, 5x optical zoom and 52mb internal memory. New features include a Couple Timer mode which cleverly detects two faces in a frame and will automatically release the shutter button as the two faces come closer together. The Couple Timer mode has three settings so users can set the timer to detect faces at various distances, whether they are standing side by side, or cheek-to-cheek.

Being 19.8mm thick and available in four colours (Pink, Silver, Black, Black/Red combo as shown) it is sure to be a popular camera when released.

Sigma have announced that there will be an upgrade available for their two new large-range telephoto zoom lenses, the 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM and 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM for Canon mount, to address an issue when attached to the Canon EOS-40D.  The problem is encountered when the OS function is switched on  then the number of continuous frames per second decreases. The affected lenses are:

APO 120-400mm f/4.5-5.6 DG OS HSM for Canon - Serial Numbers lower than 1011001

APO 150-500mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM for Canon - Serial Numbers lower than 1007001

The firmware has already been upgraded for lenses with Serial Numbers above these.
